It’s October. Which means just one thing… Halloween! And if you’re looking to celebrate All Hallows’ Eve by booking yourself on a spooky adventure, we’ve got you covered. Here are some of the world’s best Halloween destinations that you should visit this year.
Be it because they put on an all mighty good Halloween party or because they come in at some of the scariest places on earth. We’ve got an awful lot of treats for you this Halloween.
Transylvania, Romania
Nothing screams Halloween more than a trip to Transylvania. And with that surely comes a visit to the ultimate vampire’s creepy abode. Bran Castle was said to be the home of Vlad the Impaler, who inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula. During Halloween the castle is flocked by visitors wanting to celebrate, as well as learn more about the bloody history of this castle. You can choose to visit the castle yourself, or why not book yourself on to our Halloween Trek tour? Tour Eastern Europe to celebrate some of the real scares of Halloween. As well as a visit to the castle, you’ll have plenty of chances to share ghost stories around the campfire too!
NYC Halloween Parade
If you’re looking for a fantastic Halloween, there’s no place better than the NYC Halloween Parade, held in Greenwich Village. You’ll be joining thousands of Halloween revellers in fancy dress, as they descend the streets of New York. Think giant spooky puppets, zombies, witches, ghouls, you name it, this parade has got it. The parade has a theme ever year, and this years is ‘I AM a Robot’, so if you want to march in this free parade, you best start thinking about your costume. AND until 31st October 2018, you can save £15 OFF flights to NYC, just by using code BIGAPPLE15.
Mexico
In Mexico you won’t find any mention of Halloween, but instead Day of the Dead, which is an equally spooky celebration. This three day celebration begins on 31st October and it’s said to mark the period of time when spirits return to spend time with their friends and family.
Celebrations are different up and down the country. If you’re looking for street festivals, head to the UNSECO Human World Heritage site of Oaxaca. The streets of this historic centre transform, the local people with it too. You’ll see skulls, flowers and skeletons decorating the streets, houses and all those in attendance too! Or if you want to celebrate in a more traditional style head to the island of Janitzio. Here you’ll celebrate the dead with folk dancing and a singing gathering in the cemetery.
Dublin, Ireland
Halloween is said to have Celtic traditions, making Ireland and specifically Dublin, a fantastic place to spend Halloween. The Jack O Lantern character was derived from the Irish tale of Jack, who after a devil claimed his soul, was condemned to wander aimlessly until Halloween, where he would reappear to scare children. Creepy right?! In the centre of the city you’ll find scary Halloween parties, ghost bus tours and walking tours, so if you want to learn more about Dublin, whilst getting a few scares, these are a must!
Salem, Massachusetts
If you’re looking for a spooky Halloween experience in the USA, head to Salem! It has a dark history full of witch trials and murder. During Halloween visitors are given the full and gruesome story! From guided tours of the haunted spots in Salem, to re-enactments, parades and fireworks, there is something for everyone. And on actual Halloween night you’ll find magic shows, seances and witches balls taken place all around the city, so there will be no shortage of scary things to do in Salem this Halloween!
